Lt. Governor David Dewhurst Appoints Senator Tommy Williams Chairman of Senate Subcommittee on Property Tax Appraisal and Revenue Caps
AUSTIN — Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst announces the appointment of Senator Tommy Williams (R-The Woodlands) to Chairman of the Subcommittee on Property Tax Appraisal and Revenue Caps.
"Senator Williams shares my belief that we should do everything we can to protect taxpayers' money at every level of government. Senator Williams' strong leadership on this important committee will result in recommendations that will guide the Legislature in keeping property taxes low and giving Texans a greater say in how their money is spent," Lt. Governor Dewhurst said.
Senator Williams will lead the subcommittee as it addresses several interim charges, including a review of the property tax system, the benefits and limitations of property tax appraisal caps compared to a limit on revenue a local jurisdiction can receive without the approval of voters in the locality, and review the practice of school districts approving budgets contingent on the passage of a rate-rollback election.
Senator Williams also serves as Vice Chairman of the Senate State Affairs Committee, and as a member of the Senate committees on Education, Finance, Transportation and Homeland Security and the Subcommittee on Higher Education.
