Protecting Religious Freedom

Early this week, the Texas Senate passed the “Pastor Protection bill,” Senate Bill 2065 (SB 2065) by Senator Craig Estes. The bill protects religious leaders and their churches from being forced to participate in marriages that are against their beliefs. It is an important bill because it protects pastors and other religious leaders’ First Amendment Rights.

Attempts to weaken Texan’s overwhelming support of marriage between a man and a woman undermines the fundamental principles of our country. As your Lt. Governor, I will continue to stand behind the Texas Senate and the will of our fellow Texans.

“Tim Tebow Bill” Makes a Pass

Senate Bill 2046 (SB 2046) by Senator Van Taylor, also known as the “Tim Tebow bill” ends the prohibition of home-schooled students from participating in University Interscholastic League (UIL) activities. I’m glad to say that this bill has now passed the Texas Senate.

This bill will provide equal opportunities for the increasing number of home-schooled students across the state; allowing them to play in UIL sports with their peers.

All students, within their district, would be required to meet the same educational requirements.
