Texas Senate Update from Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick

Senate and House Reach Legislative Agreement

It is no secret that senators have been working day and night to make your priorities a reality. Critical issues such as lasting tax relief for homeowners and businesses, historic levels of border security and protecting Texans’ Second Amendment Rights will now move forward for Governor Abbott’s signature.

I could not be more proud of the senators and their perseverance. We’ve made historic changes and pushed through powerful legislation that ensures homeowners can afford to stay in their homes and businesses can grow with fewer restrictions, while maintaining a secure border and protecting our Second Amendment Rights.

I believe this agreement establishes the framework for what will be one of the most, if not the most, productive legislative sessions in the history of the Texas Senate.

Sharia Law

Senator Donna Campbell’s Senate Bill 531 (SB 531) passed this week, which protects the constitutional rights of those who are part of the proceedings involving marriage, dissolution of marriage or a suit affecting the parent-child relationship.

It’s a bill that keeps Texas’ rule of law from being infringed upon by foreign law. This legislation keeps the Texas spirit alive. I congratulate Sen. Campbell for spearheading such an important piece of legislation.

Senate Passes “Open Carry”

In a late night session this Friday, the Texas Senate passed Committee Substitute for House Bill 910 (CSHB 910) with a vote of 20-11.

The passage of this “open carry” bill is a historic moment in the Senate. Our senators showed true passion in moving this Second Amendment Right bill forward. I am proud of their commitment to protect our civil liberties.
