News from Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick

Friends,

One of the many roles I have as your lieutenant governor is appointing individuals interested in citizen government to multiple state boards and commissions. It is important for Texans intent on contributing to the advancement of this great state to apply for a position and get involved.

Be a Part of the Process

It is a great honor of mine to be able to appoint Texans to these valuable roles. There is a multitude of openings, to include the Sunset Advisory Commission, Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) Grant Program Advisory Board, Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas Oversight Committee, Economic Incentive Oversight Board, Oil and Gas Regulation and Cleanup Fund Advisory Committee and many more. To see the full list click here.

Spreading the Word

I have continued to make my away around Texas to share what was accomplished during the historic 84th Legislative Session. I discussed the successes at a luncheon this week hosted by the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce at the Omni Colonnade. The chamber represents a variety of businesses that spur economic growth in the community. I was grateful to speak with individuals who support the fight to secure our border, reduce property and business taxes and address our states challenges in education, transportation and more. This session we ended the diversion of revenue from the existing gas tax to redirect the funding for transportation, as well as ending our reliance on debt. Out of the 23 priorities on the Texas Senate side, we passed 21 of them. By my account and many others, this was one of the most successful legislative sessions in the history of the Texas Senate.

Helping our Heroes

I was happy to learn firsthand about an exciting project to help our wounded warriors. The Valor Club Golf Course is a proposed facility in San Antonio that will allow disabled veterans the opportunity to aid in their rehabilitation by playing the game of golf. It will be a 9-hole course with handicapped accessibility, as well as an affordable housing component, for wounded warriors. There is only one other course like this for veterans on the West coast. The course will be built with private funds that are being raised now. There is also a plan to create a permanent endowment so disabled veterans can play for free. I am proud of the way Texans support our veterans and their families.
