AUSTIN – “I applaud Governor Abbott’s letter calling on Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez to reverse her policy of refusing to automatically detain all criminal immigrants in accordance with federal law.

“As a state senator, I authored legislation to end sanctuary cities in Texas.  As lieutenant governor, I’ve made sanctuary city legislation a priority.

“The Senate and the House have passed bills in the past that never made it through the other chamber.

“As I stated on August 5, I now believe the Senate has the votes to pass a prohibition on sanctuary cities and we will pass this legislation out of the Texas Senate as soon as possible.
