Patrick Announces Select Committee to Study Violence in Schools and School Security



 

AUSTIN – Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick joined Gov. Greg Abbott today in Dallas and San Marcos for the roll out of the governor’s plan on school security.

“I have worked closely with Gov. Abbott in developing his extensive proposal. I am grateful for the Governor’s rapid response immediately following the Santa Fe school shooting as well as his leadership on this critical issue. Today I am announcing the appointment of a 9-member senate select committee to address the school violence and school security interim charges requested by the governor and additional issues included in the governor’s report.”

Sen. Larry Taylor, R-Friendswood, will serve as committee chair and Sen. Joan Huffman, R-Houston, as vice chair. Sen. Don Huffines, R-Dallas, Sen. Charles Schwertner, R-Georgetown, Sen. Kelly Hancock, R-North Richland Hills, Sen. Royce West, D-Dallas, Sen. Eddie Lucio, Jr., D-Brownsville, Sen. Brandon Creighton, R-Conroe and Sen. John Whitmire, D-Houston will also serve as members of the committee.

The lieutenant governor has asked the select committee to finish their work by the first week of August.
