AUSTIN – Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick issued this statement today following the passage of Senate Bill 23 – the Born-Alive Infant Protection Act, by Sen. Lois Kolkhorst, R-Brenham:

“I commend Sen. Kolkhorst on the passage of Senate Bill 23, the Born-Alive Infant Protection Act, which defends the lives of babies who survive an abortion. We have watched in horror as lawmakers in other states have put forth monstrous proposals that attack life and expand abortion, even for children that have been born. In Texas, we believe all life is precious, and it is imperative that it be protected.”

Senate Bill 23 creates a criminal offense if a physician or healthcare provider fails to provide the appropriate medical treatment to a child born alive after an attempted abortion.
