Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick: Statement on the Passage of the Property Tax Relief and Reform Act

AUSTIN – Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick issued this statement this evening following the final passage of Senate Bill 2 – the Property Tax Relief & Reform Act:

“I believe that everyone who runs for public office does so in order to make a difference. Tonight, those elected to the Texas House and the Texas Senate have made a transformative difference for our state by passing Senate Bill 2 — an historic property tax reform bill. Senate Bill 2 is the first property tax reform in 40 years. It will provide relief to millions of taxpayers and save them millions of dollars going forward. It will stimulate business growth and job creation and strengthen our communities by making sure more people don’t lose their homes.

“I have been fighting for property tax reform since 2003 — long before I ran for office and I am so proud that this night — a landmark night for Texas — has finally come. Reining in Texas’ high property tax rates will ensure that Texas continues to lead the nation in job creation and strengthen our role in the global economy.”
